BSNL, MTNL launch ‘One India’ plan
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has always been committed to provide affordable telephone services to the common man. With this commitment in view, BSNL and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) have launched ‘One India’ plan with effect from March 1, 2006. This will be one of the most affordable, customer-friendly and innovative schemes for both local and long distance calls. Thiru Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, had mooted the idea of ‘One India’ scheme, with a view to connecting people throughout the length and breadth of India at an affordable tariff. In consonance with his vision, the new plan will enable the customers of BSNL and MTNL to call from one end to the other end of India, either from Kashmir to Kanyakumari or from Dwarka to Dimapur at a cost of Re 1 per minute on 24x7 basis, any time and from any phone. This will truly mark the end of distance and STD.
Under ‘One India’ scheme, the customer will be able to call any place in India through either landline or mobile by spending just Re 1 per minute. For the first time, ‘One India’ plan removes the distinction between the fixed line and cellular tariffs and this makes the tariff ‘technology independent’. A similar plan has also been introduced for the customers of post-paid and pre-paid mobile services of BSNL and MTNL.
The details of the plan are as follows:
(A) One India tariff for Cellular services effective from March 1, 2006:
|Monthly fixed charges/Card value in Rs||299||799|
|Processing charge in Rs||Nil||249|
|Talk value available (pre-paid) in Rs||-||550|
|Validity in days (pre-paid)||-||30 days|
|Pulse rate in seconds||60||60|
|Call charges per minute in Re|
|Intra circle call to BSNL Mobile||0.40||0.60|
|All other calls including (Intra/Inter circle calls)||1.00||1.00|
(B) One India tariff for Basic/WLL services effective from March 1, 2006:
|Monthly fixed charges in Rs||299|
|Rate per Metered Call Unit in Rs||1.00|
|Pulse rate in Sec|
|Local to Fixed/WLL (Own Network)||180|
|All other calls including (Intra/Inter circle calls)||60|
BSNL and MTNL managements are of the opinion that with the introduction of the above scheme, a large number of customers will be able to use the affordable telephone service throughout India. This in turn will enhance the productivity of the common man, particularly in rural India.
The existing BSNL and MTNL landline or mobile customers can also opt for/migrate to this plan.
